We have had this tent since June 2013 and it is a lovely looking tent. However, the poles aren't great - the fibre glass poles which go over the arch of the tent, the first breakage we had was in August 2013 in relatively calm weather so we replaced this. Using it in April 2013 in strong Yorkshire winds, we have had further breakages and thought at one point that the whole tent would take off - the tent completely filled with air as it is difficult to attach the front door precisely to the ground sheet once the tent has been erected. The tent also has 2 support poles going about head height from front to back. These are metal poles and have now been damaged through strong winds and the poles have been bent. I am currently waiting for towsure to get in touch with kampa about replacement poles.

Zip-on extension makes this a very flexible tent. A pretty good living space for our family of four and associated stuff even without the extension/canopy. Particularly good ventilation thanks in part to two side doors (one that can be opened up as a canopy and one with mesh inner) and removable front panel

Relatively easy to put up (as easy as any tunnel tent).

A super tent for 2-3 adults, with plenty of space for visitors in the large living area. We love this tent for its versatility, finding the front porch area invaluable for sheltering when cooking. Standing height throughout makes it comfortable for the less youthful camper, while the flat front enables the best use of space, even if the whole thing rather resembles a poly-tunnel.

Pitching is relatively easy. The ring-and-pin system is easier to manage with the Carbis' flexible fibreglass poles than with steel poles on previous tents, and two of us were able to erect the tent in about an hour on first attempt - I am sure it will get quicker with practice! The internal poles certainly gave stability to the tent - it stood up well to some windy weather as well as a couple of nights of torrential rain without any mishaps.

As with most 5 person tents, the sleeping area would be extremely tight for 5 - it is divided into 2 adult/3 child 'rooms'. We found it luxurious for 2 adults and comfortable for 3 plus dog. Any more would be a squash.

We appreciated the mesh side door, which added to the ventilation provided by the above-window vents. It would be even better if the front and other side door could have had mesh too - we may well try to velcro some on ourselves. We like the idea that the front panel can be completely removed, though haven't yet experienced suitable weather to try this.

Overall we are really pleased with this tent - it is comfortable, spacious and wind/waterproof. A well-designed tent with many useful features.

A great versatile tent.

We are a couple and had plenty of space. The partition in the bedroom unzips and rolls up. We used the Outwell Oakland XL carpet in green as opposed to the blue one by Kampa, slightly larger but tucks under the sleeping area. We purchased a second front panel to create a porch area for muddy shoes and cooking when raining although the tent does warn that there is no cooking area and of no naked flame.

Kampa don't seem to sell the tent very well in their brochure because we found a couple of good selling points on the tent which were not listed. The whole front panel can be removed to create a smallar tent for weekend breaks, and the side door comes with a pole set to provide a canopy.

There are two horizontal poles that run the length of the tent at eye level to give rigidity, and points 2 points along each length where they are tied onto the fly sheet, but we found that during a heavy shower these 4 points would drip. We purchased some waterproofer spray and applied to the areas and that resolved the problem.

We had already purchased heavy duty pegs to replace the round wire ones, but are going to invest in some new guys, the straight plastic ones provided seem to slip, and think the metal triangular ones are better.

I would give it a 10 out of 10, but those few point brought it down. With the modifications its a solid 10.

Just been away for 3 nights in our Carbis. Originally chosen for the length as we found many pitches only accept tents up to 21 foot. Also as a novice camper wanted something relatively straight forward. Used ours without the front canopy as only myself and two daughters (7 & 9) going this time. Found it easy to erect, poles all the same size so no chance of getting that wrong (if I could I would). We managed to pitch it within 40 mins including pegging down.

Sleeping area arranged as 3 and 2 zip panel separating these can be tied up to make one large area.Large living area plenty of space for table chairs etc. Rained heavily two nights but we were nice and snug no water ingress anywhere (heard some people complaining of their tents leaking). Two steel poles run the length of the tent internally which seemed to give it more stability.

My only gripe was that on pitching we found that front right corner was slightly raised and try as we might we could not rectify this, as a result the velcro fastening of the ground sheet to the front was not as snug as I would have liked.

We bought ours with footprint and carpet(however this was only available in blue and not green to match the tent). Overall though a good tent plenty of living space and good sized sleeping for the three of us, but would probably be tight for the advertised five.

After searching for many months wife and I decided to buy a Carbis 5 after reading reviews of other Kampa tents and seeing it displayed at Camperlands.

We fell in love with the tent immediately, loads of windows, plenty of headroom (i'm 6ft 1), large living space (for just the 2 of us and our Irish Setter) and the removable porch included (extra investment on many tents.)

We'd previously had a Vango Venture 500 and felt that the living space in this was just not big enough for our rainy trips away.

Yesterday gave the tent a trial run in the garden and thats when the difference in quality became apparent between Vango and Kampa. Four faults found with the Kampa !. First thing we spotted on opening the box was one of the locking buckles on the tent bags compression straps was broken and wasn't locked into place(I could live with that they're easily replaced). Upon pitching the tent we then found the front right ring and pin adjustable strap was melted almost half the width of the strap if we pulled it to adjust it would have snapped. Once we had it erected and stood inside to admire the living space I notice a large flaw in the mosquito mesh above the front right window and to top it off a 1' tear in the fly sheet above the left side door.

Needless to say our love affair the the Carbis 5 ended then and there.

I've just returned it to Camperlands (who were brilliant by the way) put the extra money to and exchanged it for a Vango Amazon 600.

Now I realize i've probably been very unfortunate and ended up with a duff tent, but the point is as the saying goes: 1st impressions last, and that's certainly my case here. It's put me off Kampa tents for life and it's all down to poor quality control. I might be missing out on the best tent I'll ever own but hey, that's a chance i'm more than willing to take.
